The simple pearl necklace with earrings is an iconic midcentury femme look.
Offered here as a "married" set--meaning the pearl colors & general period themes match, though by different manufacturers: a quality glass pearl necklace in a creamy shade, hand knotted, paired with sweet & dainty faux pearl clipback earrings marked "Japan."
The earrings are especially charming & playful, formed in the shape of flowers (a favorite '50's theme) with what's called "woven" construction, meaning the beads are wired together. A single aurora borealis bead forms the center of the flower, with the petals represented by alternating pink and cream "pearls." Faux pearls made in Japan were prized because the method for making them involved multiple layers & resulted in a realistic-looking product.
Measurements: Necklace: 18" end to end (shorter length meant to just encircle the average woman's neck, '50's style) Earrings: 1" (just under the size of a quarter)
Details: Near Mint necklace is made of very good quality glass pearls, hand knotted & marked "gsilver," which stands for "gilded silver," a maker whose products were considered quality costume pieces, virtually indistinguishable from the real thing. J-hook closure. Very minor blemishes to the finish of several "pearls,"barely visible.
Earrings are marked "Japan" on the padded earring backs. Earrings are rated Very Good due to scattered scarring & blemishes to the finish of the "pearls," not obvious at a normal viewing distance. All elements are in place, tight & secure; earring clip mechanisms function correctly. Underside of earrings appear to have been goldtone originally, faded in spots to base metal now. Both items have been cleaned by us with jewelry polishing cloths.
