Luscious soft boxy sweater, probably a lambswool- angora-nylon blend, in a true blush peachy pink shade that flatters all complexions. Marvelously but simply decorated with cleverly, intricately crafted two-dimensional rose decorations fashioned of satin, front & back. Matching satin trims the jewel neckline, all edges, 3/4 sleeves & notched (vented) bodice.
Simple, timeless, elegant & versatile, can be worn so many ways, the decorated sweater was an essential go-to staple of the glamorous woman's wardrobe from the 1940's to the 1960's. Those made in Hong Kong, as this was, were especially prized for the quality of the hand-work & superb attention to detail. "In the late 1950s and into the 1960s, Hong Kong not only produced beautifully decorated cashmere, but also high quality lambswool/angora blends that are almost as soft as cashmere. Sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference if the tags are missing." (courtesy Lizzie Bramlett for The Vintage Fashion Guild)
Estimated Modern Size: M 8-10; as with all vintage, compare your measurements carefully.
Shoulder-to-shoulder: 16" Bust: 40" (not much "give" in the fabric, so consider this the max) Sleeves: 18" (set-in) Waist: 38" Hips: 38" Length: 19"
Details: True vintage in very good condition. Cloth label reads "Exclusively Designed Jay Pee International; Handcrafted in Hong Kong." Well made, the sweater is & "fully fashioned," meaning it was largely woven on the loom (instead of separate pieces created & stitched together later). Attaches in front by means of tiny metal hooks & eyes, as well as optional closures at vents/ notches on either side of the bodice. All closures present & working. Complementary shade of pink lining is partial (doesn't extend to sleeves), sewn in by hand & appears to be silk.
Predates U.S. fabric content & care labeling requirements, so no indication of materials used, but we recommend dry cleaning only, as it is very probably a lambswool/angora/nylon blend. Flaws are very minor: wee stain to one of the satin flower petals, front (see last photo; contrast enhanced to aid visibility); very tiny area in back appears where knit appears weakened; very minor pilling. To interior (not visible) small tear to seam of inner lining & a few stitches to the sewn-in vented lining have fallen out, doesn't affect the hang of the sweater). No tears, holes or odors.
